Heliopause

Heliopause is a fabulous word. The heliopause is the boundary defined by the limit of our Sun's influence. Obviously, this is a pretty fuzzy boundary. Its the outermost reasonable definition for the limit of the Solar System - where the solar wind (that's for another day) meets the interstellar gas and general muck. The stuff inside the heliopause is in the heliosphere, the stuff beyond is really just the wide open nothing filled with radiation, dust and  gas. The heliopause is around 100AU away.

  1. One of the original suggestions for an 'answer machine'. Derived from "Hello" "I" and the 'oh' and a 'pause' usually emitted from the caller as they realise it is an answering machine with which they are dealing.

  2. The seemingly random period of time between being seated and being served in a busy restaurant. Is a function of the number of diners and the fraction that are actually eating. Not to be confused with the truly random period between coffee and the bill, which seems more like the half-life of Plutonium.
